MUSIC DIRECTOR

POSITION SUMMARY: The Music Director is responsible for the artistic operation and development of the Billings Symphony (the "Symphony"), pursuant to policies established by the Symphony Board of Directors. The Music Director will work in close cooperation with the Symphony Board and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and within the limits set by the Symphony's annual budget.

The Music Director has the final responsibility for making decisions of an artistic nature, including, but not limited to, the selection of personnel for the orchestra, selection of repertoire, and selection of guest artists and guest conductors. The budget must be approved by the Board.

ABOUT US: For more than 70 years, the Billings Symphony has been a cornerstone of the region, impacting many lives through the transformative power of music. Founded in 1950 by Robert and Anne “Frankie” Staffanson, the Billings Symphony Orchestra began with community musicians, adding the volunteer Billings Symphony Chorale in 1952.

MANAGER OF MARKETING & cOMMUNICATIONS

POSITION SUMMARY:  The primary focus of this position is to manage all Billings Symphony communications and collaborate with a marketing firm for assistance with creative and design assets. This position will manage all aspects of but not limited to
marketing strategy, social media, website content, press releases, and content writing
driving the image of the Billings Symphony.

2024–2025 Tenured & Intern Auditions

2024–2025 PER SERVICE RATES: Principal/Asst. Concertmaster: $96.00 | Assistant Principal: $89.00 | Section Musician $77.00 | Intern Musician $54.00

MILEAGE: Mileage is reimbursed at $0.51 per mile, per vehicle, for round trip travel of 60 miles or more, with a maximum of $500 per vehicle per concert. Mileage will be limited to one round trip for concert sets where there is no day off, or gap day, between services. For concert sets where there is a day off or gap day between services, an additional round trip will be reimbursed.

AIR TRAVEL: Musicians who travel by air will be reimbursed for up to $550 of their air travel costs, limited to an airplane ticket, baggage checking fees, and costs related to travel to the airport of departure (rideshare/taxi to or parking at the departure airport). Billings Symphony will reimburse airline ticket costs within three weeks of receipt of the itinerary/travel receipt. Musicians retain all frequent flyer miles accrued.

HOUSING: Billings Symphony offers homestays for out-of-town Musicians.

The Billings Symphony is currently accepting substitute-only videotaped auditions for all positions. Submissions are accepted throughout the year. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
