Dr. Steven Hart, director
Composers, just like authors, write in a particular fashion. This concert highlights the quintessential characteristics, or compositional voice of great composers. Hear the power and beauty of Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Faure, Z. Randall Stroope, and Moses Hogan.
To get tickets:
- Brahms is often associated with the concept of "absolute music," which refers to instrumental music that is appreciated for its own sake and not meant to represent anything outside of the music itself.
- Moses Hogan's arrangement of "The Battle of Jericho" is infused with gospel and jazz elements, giving it a lively and energetic feel.
- Written for eight vocal parts (SSAATTBB), Gallupi's Dixit Dominus showcases his mastery of polyphony, incorporating intricate contrapuntal textures and vigorous vocal interplay.
