Family Concert: Peter & the Wolf

Saturday
Jan 22, 2022

12:00 PM

Livestream or On-Demand

PLEASE NOTE: This concert has been moved to a livestream only event. As of January 11 and due to the rise of COVID-19 cases from the highly contagious Omicron variant, the Billings Symphony Orchestra is disappointed to announce that we will not be performing to an in-person audience on Saturday at Lockwood Performing Arts Center. The concert will be livestreamed at the same time (noon), same date (Saturday 1/22), and will remain free of charge to all. The safety of our students and community is our top priority. We look forward to bringing live performances to families throughout the region when transmission of COVID-19 falls to a safe level, as determined by our Health and Safety Taskforce and local, state, and national health experts.

Ticket options include a livestream at noon on Saturday, or select an on-demand ticket to be used up to seven days after the initial performance airs.

Family Concert: Peter & the Wolf

1.22.22 | 12:00 PM
Livestreamed from Lockwood Performing Arts Center

Sergei Prokofiev’s beloved musical fairy tale for children is brought to life by the BSOC musicians and friends for this FREE family concert. “Peter and the Wolf” is a classic story about a young boy and his animal friends who venture off into the meadow while the wolf is lurking near.

The concert opens with work by living American composer and violinist Jessie Montgomery, who was born and raised in Manhattan’s vibrant Lower East Side among artists, activists, politicos, and musicians during the 1980s and 90s.

The program also features “John Henry” by Aaron Copland, based on the legend of the steel-driving man, and the classic work of Beethoven, Symphony No. 9, dubbed the “Chorale Symphony” for being the first symphony ever to include singers.

The program is narrated by Dan Nickerson, Billings resident and a longtime performer and actor, educator, director, designer and father.
