Johnny Gandelsman: Grammy-winning artist and Silkroad violinist presents a transformative musical journey at the Billings Depot

Billings, February 1, 2024 – We are delighted to introduce Johnny Gandelsman, one of the most revered violinists of our time and a Grammy-winning artist, as he graces both the Billings Depot and Sweet Grass Arts Theater for two unforgettable concert experiences. As part of our commitment to rural outreach, Gandelsman will be performing a free concert at the Sweet Grass Arts Theater in Big Timber on February 14th at 6:30pm, followed by another extraordinary performance on February 15th at 7pm at the historic Billings Depot.

Renowned for his mesmerizing performances, Gandelsman has been lauded by The New Yorker as “revelatory” and placed in the esteemed company of visionary musicians such as Maurizio Pollini, Peter Serkin, and Christian Zacharias. Through his unique blend of creative sensitivity, he weaves a captivating musical narrative that transports audiences into a world of enchantment and introspection.

Drawing from a diverse array of influences, Gandelsman infuses a balletic lightness of touch and a sense of whimsy and imagination into his performances, as noted by the Boston Globe. Accompanied by his violin, he invites listeners on a journey that pushes boundaries, evoking emotions, and touching the core of their being.

Launching the evening with a reimagined Bach Cello Suite, Gandelsman sets the stage for a series of groundbreaking compositions from “This Is America,” an anthology born out of the profound social justice reckoning of 2020 and 2021. Each meticulously crafted work serves as an intimate reflection on the current state of American society, shedding light on universal themes of separation, loneliness, hope, and love through an unflinching lens.

The concert will take place at the historic Billings Depot, providing a magnificent backdrop that mirrors the grandeur and artistry of Gandelsman’s performance. Audiences are in for an extraordinary evening, where time will stand still, and musical notes will resonate with the very depths of their souls.

Johnny Gandelsman’s concert at the Billings Depot promises to be an immersive experience that transcends boundaries and inspires profound reflections on the human condition. This is an event not to be missed for music enthusiasts, culture aficionados, and anyone seeking an unforgettable artistic journey.

Don’t miss this exceptional opportunity to witness the artistry of Johnny Gandelsman.
